The title sounds quite strange. One of my friend is shifting abroad because she has problem in car parking in Delhi..
Well, this has not been said jokingly. My friend, who is married with a guy settled in London recently was reluctant to go seeing little scope for herself there. As a working women with high self esteem, she preferred living independently instead of settling down just a housewife. However, her neighbors did not let her rest for a single minute. The car parking place provided by her landlord was denied to her by nasty neighbors and she faced problems in leaving her car far from her residence and come alone in the night.
This is a common story for young women in Delhi, who claim to be self-dependent or at least try to live alone.Despite boasting of a cosmopolitan global city, Delhi is ruthless toward women. Be it a traffic signal, or a park, car parking or a less crowded road; hypocrite men do not leave a single chance of harassing women. If you are young and confident, it's simply beyond their tolerance. If they see any woman driving a vehicle, something irks them. They will chase you, force to drive faster, and tease you with vulgar comments...
So, to be good according to them, women need to remain soft, delicate and ornamented only. Doing any thing daring is just an offense. Driving , no way!!! Does not matter whether you are working as a super boss in a corporate company or managing heavy responsibilities as a technocrat, if you are a woman, they will raise their brows at every step you take.
I am not talking about some fundamentalist autocratic country of Middle East or Africa, this is the present and real face of Delhi, a highly urbanized, metropolitan and capital city of India...

Get married and settle down
Recently went through a Hindi blog--http://shaadikarwao.blogspot.com/
Though the blogger intends to put it with a touch of fun and sarcasm about the Indian society and marriage norms, and he does it beautifully, my thoughts led to some different aspects of it. Can Indian society think beyond marriages. Even in 21'st century, our main motto of life remains narrowed down in few things--- get educated, get a job and then settle down. There is a lot of change in the thinking toward career and way of living, but it is not so as far as the perception toward life is concerned.
So it does not matter yet if you are well qualified here and got your salary in lacs per month. Your father and mother, brothers and sisters and uncles and aunts [fortunately we have plenty of them in India] will always be concerned about your marriage and getting you settle down.
So guys before they ask you about your intentions behind staying single or doubt if the boy is going badly westernized [the way they quote homosexuality in India], just settle down and get married.

Her best friend
Meeting an old friend was just like a dream,
A friend, close to my heart in every way.
And she knew Without a word
Whatever I wanted to say.
With patience she heard all my worries
Shared my dreams and nightmares
Talking about life’s bitterness and shining day
I felt her there in every way.
Never judged me for any deed,
She felt the agony deep in my heart
She embraced me with all my faults
And stayed there all the way.
She listened to me as air
Silent and without interruption
With all her courage
And did not shy away
She meant a lot to me,
I wanted to feel her
To embrace and let her know
How her presence had changed my life.
Perplexed and shocked I was
The moment I tried to embrace,
And touch the moisture of belongingness
She was nothing but a mere mirror,
Looking blankly though supporting
And understanding me in every way.

WHEN HE LOOKED BACK AND SMILED..
WHEN IT WAS DARK IN THE MORNING
AND I WAS WAITING FOR THE SUN...
THE SKY WAS GLOOMY, AND BIRDS TO SILENT.
THOUGH THEY TOO WERE EAGER WITH OPEN MOUTH..
I OPENED MY EYES WHEN HE LOOKED BACK AND SMILED...
I WAS AWAKE LYING IN MY BED..
TIRED WITH MY BORING ROUTINE
RUSHING FROM ONE CORRIDOR TO OTHER
TO CATCH THE MORNING NEWS, BUSES AND CLASSES,
THE INTERVIEWS, VACANCIES AND EXAMS
YET TOO BUSY TO GIVE UP..
I GOT A BREATH WHEN HE LOOKED BACK AND SMILED
IN THE COLLEGE, WHERE EVERY ONE SEEMS BUSY WITH SOMETHING REALLY WORTH..
A RESEARCH, OR A THESIS OR ATLEAST
SOME PROTAGONIST WITH A REVOLUTIONARY THEORY
I LAY AWAKE, THOUGH DOING NOTHING..
JUST MISSING THE CLASSES, BEING PHYSICALLY PRESENT,
ANALYSING THE USELESS RESEARCH METHODOLGY
AND COMPARING WITH THE RUTHLESS PRACTICALISM OUTSIDE THE CAMPUS..
I GOT A HOPE AGAINST THE HOPE,
WHEN HE LOOKED BACK AND SMILED
AND I WAS WAITING FOR THE SUN...
THE SKY WAS GLOOMY, AND BIRDS TO SILENT.
THOUGH THEY TOO WERE EAGER WITH OPEN MOUTH..
